It's been a day already. I walk out my door without my bus pass or ID so I go back. By that time, I'm running late enough that I'm going to miss the bus if I walk to my stop. So I drive to the next stop & catch the bus there.
I get to work & my phone is ringing as I walk into the office. I answer it & work on the call as I'm taking off my coat. I finish the call, partially unresolved, and head back to the closet to hang up my coat. As I comment to my co-worker 'it's not even 8 am & it's already started,' the fire alarm goes off. I spend 20-some minutes in the cold as we wait for the firemen to arrive & take care of whatever the problem is (it's unlikely that it's really a fire).
Chris gave me three wonderful books yesterday. One is for drawing horror manga, one for magical girl manga & one for fantasy art. Cool, huh? I gave him season 1 & 2 of Veronica Mars. He seemed to like them.
We went to a fast food burgers last night. Neither of us felt like cooking but we didn't want pizza & anything 'classier' than fast food was going to be packed.
tv: watched part of Kiss Me Kate. I love that movie. And Howard Keel is just so hot in that movie. Yum. After that we watched Scooby Doo, Where Are You & CSI. Chris had seen that episode; horror movie star murdered, but I hadn't.
books: I reread Scandal & started Happy Hour at Casa Dracula. It's kinda funny & definitely different. I also skimmed through the books that Chris gave me and a book on making plushy little softies.
tatting: still on that last ring. I need to undo a knot & then retie it before I can go further.
other crafts: that ribbon yarn scarf is almost the length of my forearm now, almost.
clothes: black jeans yesterday, black slacks today; black half-boots yesterday, black suede shoes today; same black belt with Celtic stamping & silver Celtic knot buckle; same grey cord vest; same hematite band; same plaited hair; different shades of green turtleneck; different set of emerald necklace & earrings; and today I added my labradorite bracelet.

Last night I mostly played computer games, as I watched part of a tv movie & then watched CSI followed by Brit sitcoms and then Justice League Unlimited.
books: I bought Claimed by Shadow yesterday & finished it at lunch today. I exchanged my extra copy of Kitty Takes a Holiday for The Viscount in Her Bedroom.
tatting: I only have one chain left to do of Jane's fantasy flower. Too bad it's an oopsy. I figured out that I have messed up two of the chain joins & I'm just not up to redoing all of that again.
Spurred on by Jane's report of Palmetto fun, I'll try & recount my view of the weekend.
Thursday:
I went to Anitra's after gaming & arrived about 10 pm. We started going through the Workbaskets as her birthday present was to fill in some of the gaps in her collection. We finally headed to bed around midnight. I didn't sleep so well but on the bright side, we were both awake by the time the alarm rang at 5 am. So we did not oversleep.
We got dressed, while Steve (the sweetheart) went to get breakfast for us from Biscuitville (or was it Bojangles?). We doublechecked that we had everything and when Stephanie arrived at 6:55 am we were ready to go. We loaded up her car with the two computer paper boxes of Workbaskets, our clothes & our tatting materials and we were off to South Carolina.
We had brought music but ended up talking most of the way there. I played the Once More With Feeling album/music from the episode of Buffy but that was pretty much it. At the two hour mark & then an hour & a half later we made pit stops; my bladder & everyone got a chance to stretch her legs.
We arrived at White Oak Conference Center just before noon. It's in the middle of farmland and very pretty. We registered, unloaded the car in our room and then off to lunch. As we were headed for registration, I spotted Mimi and she not only recognized me; she remembered my name. From when we met two years ago! Of course, it was all to the funny story/joke that I told her about the 2 Southern belles on the veranda. 'Thaht's verah nahse.'
After lunch, we split up to go to our individual classes. Anitra & Stephanie went to one & I went to another. My first class was Jane's Fantasy Flower, which I may actually finish today. I like the beaded version better. Working with gauges and long picots is definitely a weakness of mine. And my flower shows it.
For the second class, all three of us were in Karey's Flower Wreath class. I finished mine but it's a little sloppy. If I use a smaller thread & don't mess up the flowers, I can do better. As I reached the 3rd flower, I realized that I had managed to put the 1st two flowers on opposite faces of the wreath. Ooops. Karey showed me how to fix it and it works, but I'm not 100% happy with my workmanship. I think Stephanie finished hers late Saturday or early Sunday; and it looks much better than mine.
At some point, I managed to stop by the venders to pick up the thread & the seed beads for Jane's frog on Saturday, as well as two Aero shuttles to load for it. At the banquet, they announced the top donors of butterflies, flowers, etc for them to hand out at the SC state fair. The 3 runners up had 500, 600 or thereabouts, each. The winner had 1002. That's a lot!
At supper, a nice couple sat with us along with um....someone I've met whose name I cannot recall. The older couple had retired and this was part of their vacation. They were leaving Saturday to go visit family in Virginia, I think. She had just started tatting. So we had a 25-year tatter, 19-year tatting, 20-something, 7-year tatter & one who could measure her tatting experience in months, without doing multiplication.
The Banquet is always fun. The one drawback, at this location if you didn't drink tea or coffee, there was only water available. The food was pretty good although we were the next to last table to go up to the buffet. We had salads to munch on and they lasted almost long enough.
Georgia Seitz was the keynote speaker and she's good. She covered a lot of the history of tatting and was amusing by turns. I think I'd like to hear her again, and that specific address.
After supper it was time for games and night owls. What a hoot, if you'll pardon the pun. Riet (who's Dutch) taught a song about an owl, in Dutch. You heard people humming or singing the chorus all weekend. She also had a number of owl patterns, for people to work on.
One of the games was teams of 4 would decorate 4 cards. We kind of drafted one person, she provided a few flowers & that was it. Anitra, Stephanie & I made up the rest of the team. We made two scenes, one day & one night. Each had a line of grass on the bottom, a tree on the left and flowers. The night scene had a moth (ecru butterfly), a crescent moon, a bunny, an owl (from the night owls), stars and a couple pale flowers. The day scene had a sun, more flowers, a couple of Anitra's daffodils, a half butterfly alit on one of the flowers. I drew in the stems for the flowers for the day & the night sky for other.
Stephanie tatted a long brown chain which I used to outline a basket; filled in by 3 brown flowers. Then it was 'filled' by assorted flowers, that's where I used most of the ones donated by our 4th team member. The fourth one I did at the last minute, almost by myself (I had separate classes from the others) from an idea that Anitra suggested. It was a wreath of flowers (ie a simple circle) with a bow at the bottom. Alas, we did not win.
I only tatted two owls before I started fading fast. I used one on the card & gave the other one to Riet. I wonder what she did with them. Probably gave to the Palmetto Guild to hand out at the fair.
I headed to bed to be asleep by 11:o0 or so.
clothes: today's outfit is a black tank under a black, long-sleeved rayon blouse, black jeans & ~slippers, onyx pendant & earrings, braided silver ring with the 2 matching bangle bracelets and braided hair.

Dental visit: I have a small mouth ulcer instead my upper lip on the right (stress & hormones probably). It was a root canal & I'm out of dental insurance for the year. This sucks! And there's a nasty aftertaste that keeps hitting me at unexpected moments. I go back in 3 weeks for the follow-up. No more for me until the new year & my insurance renews.

I got my flu shot yesterday. That was chore. It's a 20-minute walk to the building where they scheduled it & that building has a different label on the campus map. I find the building & enter, learning that I'm one floor down from where I need to be. So I take the stairs. At the landing the sign says 'exit only, no entrance'. So down the stairs, find a different set & up I go. Find the room & learn that they've moved! Now I follow the directions, through 2 other, connected, buildings to find the correct room. Miraculously, I was only 10 minutes late. Needless to say, that took up most of my lunch hour (50 minutes of it, I spent 5 minutes in the Ram shop checking out their iPod sale).
Tatting update: I've almost finished the purple & grey bead necklace. It needs one more ring; with jump ring & fastener. I've already put the fastener on the jump ring. I just need to thread the jump ring onto the thread and tat it into place.
I got the bookmark from Lotus (etatter). It's lovely. It's a variant of Rebecca's (tatmom03) cross with a split chain tail & a tassel.
BOOKS: I read Seducing the Spy by Celeste Bradley. It was good, I enjoyed it. The heroine was quite atypical; a ruined woman who's not bitter. I've been reading March Upcountry on my Palm but was really in the mood to read We Few. So I went ahead & bought the latter for my Palm. I'm having a problem with it, with all my ebooks, though. The formatting! I can see every html command & it's very distracting. It's the worst in We Few, though. A three word sentence is surrounded by three lines of text. I'm trying a different ereader to see if that helps.
Outfits: Yesterday's; blue 2005 NCAA Men's Basketball Champs polo, my 'new' navy blue slacks (White Stag brand), brown half boots, braided hair, moonstone earrings & cabochon pendant, paui shell ring & flower band.
Today's; braided hair, burgundy silk shirt (that I've just noticed has some bleached spots on it - collar, pocket & a couple small ones on one sleeve cap..and a spot on the same sleev's cuff), black vest striped with embroidery in burgundy, tan & black, black jeans, black socks & black tassel loafers. My jewelry are the simple onyx & silver earrings, three phases of womanhood pendant, flower band & the red stone & black stone bands.

I sort of watched, not really, VH1's 100 Hottest Hotties, 60-41 while I talked to Mom. At eight we checked & CSI was a repeat so we watched Tru Calling. According to TV Guide CSI was on somewhere; channel 13 I think. I have no idea what that is on cable. We found that it was being aired at 1:37am on WRAL. So we set the VCR to tape it & watched part of something before switching to Fillmore. We caught the last act. Then we watched Extreme Elimination a dubbed version of Tokeshi's Castle (spelling). It's funny in a sick sexist way. I headed to bed about 10 pm when Justice League was coming on. It was one I had seen but Chris hadn't.
Today's outfit: Burgundy turtleneck, black gauze handkerchief hem skirt - calf-length, thigh high black boots, silver three ages of woman pendant on silver chain, silver ring ~flattened twisted cord, silver ring w/ silver flowers, & silver hoops earrings. My hair is loose until I have a chance to brush it, then I'll clip it with the 'barrette' I bought from Bronze Rose this past Ren Festival & braid it. When I go out again I put my burgundy & grey sweater back on.
Tonight Chris is taking his nephew out for supper for his birthday. Chris was supposed to take him last week but the snow cancelled that plan. So I'm on my own for supper tonight.
I was running so late this morning I was ready to walk back & drive to the park & ride after missing the bus. I caught the bus instead so no worries.
I'm listening to one of the tapes I made a while back. I copied my By the Sword & Oathbound tapes. That way I wear out the copies & not the originals. I bought them in the late 80's/early 90's.

Wheee. The TTA bus arrived to Campus a full 15 minutes later than usual. That made me just on time for work. I did a couple interesting pictures as I waited for the bus of the snow as it fell. By the time the bus picked me up, quite a bit of snow had accumulated. It's very picturesque & more than a trifle dangerous.
I'm almost over the cold that knocked me flat Monday through Wednesday. I came to work yesterday but I was so not at my best. I took a short nap at lunch. Steve, the heating/air guy, noticed today that I looked much better. Since I'm wearing a purple turtleneck again I know that my improved looks are not due to the influence of the colors that I'm wearing.
Last night, I watched Stargate:SG1 on SciFi channel. I'm catching up on the ones from 2nd season, I think. There was nothing that enthused me at 7pm so I watched 100 through 81 of VH1's 100 Hottest Hotties. After that I turned to broadcast tv for Tru Calling & CSI. At 10 it was back to cable as I watched Diagnosis Murder while I tried to finish The Countess by Catherine Coulter. I taped CSI for Chris & I called my mom. I reached her machine, not her. Her friend Dr. Ron Joyner died recently. They worked together at Wesley Long Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. He was a great guy & a gifted doctor. He was so sick recently, that frankly, his death is a relief. He was always so active and to be an invalid like that, trapped in his own body was a living death. He always told the most horrid puns & jokes. Any time my mom started with "Dr. Joyner told me this joke" I braced myself. A couple times I managed to tell my mom a few jokes that she shared with Dr. Joyner.
